Shadows Of Envy

If you like good food, art, fashion, film, live music, design or alcohol (or all of the above), pay close attention. Shadows Of Envy are a brand spanking new venue in Melbourne which offer everything I previously mentioned. As well as being a scrumptious cafe and bar, they have an extremely versatile space which is available to creative minds to showcase their work on a platform rarely offered, but desperately needed.

Shadows Of Envy literally opened to the public today and will soon become the place to be on a Saturday night in Melbourne. They are currently looking for local artists of all types including street artists, uni students or recently graduated, interior designers and fashion designers. They aim to make local talent accessible to a wider market and launch people into promising careers.

At the moment, there are some amazing street art murals on display as well as oil paintings and one of my favourite mediums, line work drawings. When I was in there, they were played a Gotye song from his first album so they instantly win massive brownie points by me. A really exciting event that is currently being planned is a Hardware Lane fashion show open to the public showcasing talented local fashion designers and making fashion more accessible.

The venue is bright and open but has little sections with plush vintage chairs which creates as snug and private feel for you and your friends.

One of the best parts about Shadows Of Envy is the food. Everything is deliciously tempting and well priced. When I visited, I couldn't help but buy a yummy baguette with roast beef, roast potatoes, caramelised onion, mustardy mayonnaise, cheese and baby spinach leaves on a crispy roll. If that doesn't get your mouth watering, I don't know what will.

Go and have a coffee and a baguette and check out some amazing local artists in your lunch break. Shadows Of Envy is going to keep changing and evolving so it will be a different experience every time you go. Unfortunately this venue has had to close it's doors due to lack of government support. It's a sad day for all.
