A Day In The City: Part 1

June 30, 2012

Today was one big day of sampling some of the little (and mostly free) things that Melbourne has to offer in one afternoon. We started our journey in Sportsgirl because they were offering free manicures and had professional nail artists on hand to spruce up your fingertips (pun not intended).

Mistaken For Strangers

Once again I was invited by the lovely girls at Wish to preview their new line, this one being for Spring. The "Mistaken By Strangers" line will feature lilac, scarlet, spearmint, orange and sherbet on beautiful figure hugging dresses and chic pant suits. Most of these garments will be in stores within the next couple of weeks (some are already in if you look close enough) and will take us right through til the end of August.

Adding Colour To Melbourne's Winter

June 27, 2012

Okay so I know this isn't really an event but I became aware of it yesterday and decided that people should know about it. This art installation at Australia On Collins, which is located on Collins Street (a given I know) between Swanston Street and Elizabeth Street. Some 350 umbrellas have been hung from wires throughout one of Melbourne's original shopping promenades by a truly unique creative consultancy and project management agency K.inc.

Blast From The Past | Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2011

June 24, 2012

A highlight of each year is definitely the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Not many fashion festivals around the world open their doors to the general public but the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is one of the biggest fashion festivals that does just that. It's also one of my favourite events because it's run by the City Of Melbourne and it offers a huge range of volunteer positions of which I have applied for 2012.

Bupa Ride To The G

June 17, 2012

Today started out with beautiful blue skies and sun streaming down for the Bupa Ride To The G. The Bupa Ride To The G is a promotional activity that the global health fund Bupa have organised to promote healthy living and exercise. Our job today was to wear their bright blue uniform (pretty much the colour of the sky in the second picture) and encourage and engage with people. Unfortunately where myself and my team were placed was the area that had mostly cars coming through it.

Vintage Clearance Sale

June 16, 2012

In our search for cheap clothing we managed to come across this amazing place in Melbourne called the Abbotford Convent. It felt like we were walking through the grounds of a classy English property with beautiful gardens and architecture. We were there to go to The Vintage Clearance Centre super sale. I unfortunately didn't have any money because I'm a poor unemployed student but my friends did and together bought almost $100 worth of stuff.

Chain Mail: True Self

June 9, 2012

I love Melbourne when it rains. Everything is so glossy. We went into Bourke Street today to find the True Self art exhibition at the Melbourne GPO. The True Self exhibition collaborates art and fashion with the aim to raise money for a non-for-profit charity Fitted For Work which aims to give disadvantaged women corporate clothes for work and to help them look their best. Each piece of art was $200 which is a pretty good price, if I wasn't a poor student myself I definitely would've bought one.

The art will be on display until the 24th of June, so if you're around I highly recommend checking it out.

Blast From The Past | St Jerome's Laneway Festival 2011

June 5, 2012

So because it's Winter in Australia and nothing much happens in Winter, I thought I'd put up some blast from the past blogs about previous events I've been to before I started blogging to fill in some time. I don't hide that St Jerome's Laneway Festival is easily my favourite music festival in Australia and even though I've only been once, I now plan to go every year (providing I can drag some people along with me). St Jeromes Laneway Festival is run by my dream job company Lunatic Entertainment who also represent Gotye and The Temper Trap.

Whose Wardrobe Beaumaris

June 3, 2012

I'm always looking for relatively lazy ways to sell my unwanted clothing so when I heard about Whose Wardrobe Preloved Fashion Market in Beaumaris I thought it would be worth checking out. As far as I know, this is the first time they've held it so I wasn't sure what to expect. We ended up finding some really pretty items for great prices and definitely want to get a stall for next time!

The Order Of Melbourne

June 1, 2012

Today we had another class in everyone's favourite venue The Order Of Melbourne for our up coming event God Save The Queen. We had a bit of a play around with the lighting and projections (which are going to look awesome on the night) and just generally cleared up some items of business. I didn't have too much to do so I thought I'd take some happy snaps of this beautifully decorated venue.

Fun fact: The roof has inbuilt trapeze wires and swings. If only we had a bigger budget *sigh*
