When I was younger, my dad and I used to take to the road and explore Australia, but we hadn't been adventuring for a while. We decided it might be fun to go on a day trip down the Mornington Peninsula to Rosebud, because of the abundance on thrift shops there. When we got down there we discovered the weekly Saturday market and thought we couldn't come all this way without having a peak.
Everything was fairly typical of a local market, lots of homemade food, random trinkety things, junk and plants. Amongst all the random things, I found a particular item that I instantly fell in love with. Alas, I cannot show it to you though. Because I didn't by it for myself, I bought it for one of my best friends and I want it to be a surprise when I give it to him. As soon as I saw it I HAD to have it! Plus it was only $10.
We also found these adorable pelicans which fit perfectly with our beach themed house! So we bought the big one and named him Phil. My dad suggested the name. He was only $25 which I thought was pretty good too. There's one thing I do like about regional markets, and that's that everything is reasonably priced. Not like the markets in the city where everything is ridici expensive.
We kept walking and came across a darling little antique store called Once Upon A Time. I am a sucker for little trinkety things, especially cats and woodland creatures, but the one thing that really caught my eye was a sign that said "You've Been Led Up The Garden Path." I seriously wanted it but unfortunately I didn't get it. Major regrets. Although I can probably make it myself at home.
One of the main reasons we went to Rosebud was so my dad wanted could show me the Rosebud Vintage Bazaar. We also got lunch there. I got a veggie frittata and my dad got a focaccia. I thought my dish was a little bland and needed some stronger cheese in it or something. It was good, but not particularly great. We also devoured a berry smoothy each before exploring the store.
The Rosebud Vintage Bazaar and Cafe is in the building that used to be the local cinema, which you can tell when you walk in the door. If you keep walking through the cafe and out the back, you find the cinema room filled to the brim with all sorts of vintage wonders. We had a look around for a while, I tried on a couple of dressed, but we didn't get anything. Was still an entertaining afternoon.
We agreed that we weren't quite ready to go home after Rosebud so we kept driving up the coast to the next main town, Rye. Click here to read Part 2!
