The Hardware Sociéte

March 13, 2013

I really need to stop going out to lunch until I have a job, or some sort of steady stream of income. I just can't help myself. I love the cafes in Melbourne. I have to make a confession though, I actually wrote this blog post about a month ago and never had time to publish it, so it's being published now. I met up with some friends and we went to The Hardware Societe cafe for lunch. This cafe has been on the Urbanspoon Melbourne top 10 Talk Of The Town list for a while now so I was expecting good things.
I have to say though, I was fairly unimpressed. Mainly because the food was so expensive, and being the fussy eater that I am, I didn't really like the look of anything on the menu. I ended up going with the cheapest option which was this quiche. It was yummy but still a bit too expensive for my liking for what is essentially egg.
My friend had a duck dish (I don't remember exactly what it was) and she loved it. I can't bring myself to eat duck, even though I have no problem eating chicken. I guess it's just what you grow up with. Even though I did have my reservations with the food, I really loved the shabby chic decor and the fact that you could buy a whole range of gourmet produce, I think most of it was from Victoria.
The Hardware Societe has got a great rating on Urbanspoon so it's probably just me being fussy. If I went back I think I'd just get a coffee and a cake, they look delish! Please don't let my personal taste stop you from checking out this place, I think I'm definitely in the minority with this one. If you like slightly fancy food you'll probably love The Hardware Societe.
