Show Time

September 28, 2012

Two years ago I worked at the Royal Melbourne Show and I vowed never to pay for entry to the show again. Luckily, this year I got myself two free tickets so it was show time once again! Melbourne really turned on the weather for us with an amazing sunny 27C day and it stayed warm well into the night.
Oh gosh when I saw these, I literally yelled "holy crap they're so little!" and a group of 15 year old boys looked at me like I was insane (okay maybe I am a little bit), but seriously, so little!

For those of you who don't know, this is a Tawny Frogmouth, it is NOT an owl like the tweens standing next to me thought. Did your parents teach you nothing?! Yes they are a close relative of owls, but it's a difference species.

And then I walked around the corner and saw this sign and burst out laughing. Could they have made it more in your face? Way to not sugar-coat where our food comes from.

Once inside we were treated to baby animals with the constant reminder that this is dinner. We had to leave pretty quickly because we were almost in tears.

We then found the wood chop competition and sat down in the hope of watching muscly men chopping wood. It was cool to watch but the men weren't as muscly and manly as we had hoped.

After going on a rather tame but still incredibly fun ride, I convinced my friend Freya who has a fear of heights to go on the ferris wheel with me. Am I a bad friend? Possibly. But I wanted to go on the ferris wheel so badly! I got some amazing birds-eye shots of the thrill seeker ride section all lit up at night.

The night soon came to a close with jet pack man and some breath-taking fireworks accompanied by One Direction blasting over the speakers.

I had an absolutely amazing time and I think it definitely helped that we didn't have to pay for entry. I got home and went through all the crap I got in show bags and came down from my fairy floss sugar high. Definitely a fun day/night out if you're willing to pay for it. The Royal Melbourne Show is a tad expensive.
