Tucked away in a secret little gallery in Melbourne you will find the Royal Melbourne exhibition celebrating Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the past 60 years of her reign. I have know this was on for a couple of weeks but whenever I walked past it, it was always closed. So the other day I checked to see if it was open and to my delight, it was! I'd never been in this tiny exhibition space located in the City Gallery outside of the Melbourne Town Hall and was quite surprised at what they had in there.
The exhibition ranged from modern photography to beautiful oil paintings as well as small circular tapestries all over the walls with signs of our Motherland and Australia.
There was also plenty to read if you need something to keep you busy for a while and a really interesting royal family tree.
This little watercolour painting (I think it is anyway) was my favourite because being Gen Y, I never think of the Queen as being young and it's beautiful to see images like this reminding me that the Queen was once like myself (well loosely anyway) and even though we sometimes make fun of her and the royal family, that they do so much good in the world.
I make it no secret that I love all things British and it was almost a year ago today that I was having the time of my life in London with some of my closest friends so I felt very reminiscent being in this exhibition.
Oh, and did I mention that the Royal Melbourne exhibition is free and it will be running until the 8th of September, so if you're in the city and you need to pass a little time, pop in and have a look around.
