Currently in Melbourne we're experiencing what is playfully referred to the arctic vortex. In other words, our coldest winter in about 30 years. So the Yarra Valley Hot Chocolate Festival really couldn't have come at a better time.
For an entree, we wolfed down a strawberry flan with whipped cream and melted chocolate. I say wolfed because it was gone about 30 seconds after it hit the table. And then I proceeded to use my finger to scrape out the rest of the melted chocolate from the little cup. This was our idea of keeping it healthy. Fruit means healthy right?
For our main course we had a hot chocolate each. But these weren't just any old hot chocolates. My friend ordered the Nutella hot chocolate, which also came with a mini cup of melted chocolate and a homemade marshmallow square, and I ordered the Mississippi Mudcake hot chocolate. Mine arrived with a circle of chocolate on the top and a cup on hot caramel sauce which you use to melt the chocolate disk. I also had a mini square of brownie and a homemade marshmellow. All in all heaven in a cup!
The Hot Chocolate Festival is at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, which is about an hour drive out of Melbourne. It is running everyday in August and each week there are different flavours of hot chocolate to indulge in. We also made a day of it and went to Healesville Sanctuary afterwards.
