When researching things to do in Brisbane (ie. where to shop) I discovered that Australia's very first Forever 21 has opened up at the Queen Street Mall. I have to admit that I thought it was a little bit strange that it's in Brisbane not Sydney or Melbourne (sorry Brisbane), but hey, one more thing to add to my to-do list!
I was really excited to check it out because I'd had a bit of a squiz at their online store and seen some really nice things. However the actual experience was a tad underwhelming. As soon as you walked in you could tell it was just like a huge Valleygirl or Temt. The stock looked almost identical actually. Not to say that's particularly a bad thing because you can get nice things at those stores, but I went through the whole 2-storey store and only found 1 dress I liked enough to try on.
The prices were a bit all over the place too. I looked at a shirt firstly and it was $16, which I though was really reasonable. However the dress I found that I liked was $40, and that was on sale (it was not worth $40), and a lot of the bags and shoes were around the $50 mark too.
Overall I liked the shop and bought a couple of accessories. I'd welcome it as an addition to Melbourne's shopping scene, but it would be nice if some of the items from the US online store made it to our shore. Standard I guess for international brands testing the waters in Australia though.
