Pony Gold at Southset Gallery

May 6, 2014

If you don't follow the blog Pony Gold, you're definitely missing out. A couple of days ago, without even knowing she was based in Australia, I saw on the blog that Rachel Urquhar, the artist behind the blog, is having an exhibition in Melbourne. Melbourne seems to have an endless supply of hidden gems, and in the rabbit warren that is the south/eastern industrial area, we found the Southset Gallery. The Southset Gallery showcases a range of Americana, Mexican and Bohemian artwork from Australian artists and designers.
What originally lead me to want to go to the gallery is this amazing hand painted denim jacket. It's got to be one of the coolest and most unique pieces of clothing I've ever seen, although it was a bit out of my price range :'( Doesn't mean I can't admire it and share it with you.
As well as Rachel Urquhart's amazing artwork, the Southset Gallery is also showcasing art, jewellery and clothing from other designers including Wolf Child, The Millie Studio, Howlin Wolf and Arrow Divine.
The gallery also has an awesome indoor half-pipe skate ramp that was hand built by one of the guys that runs the gallery (I think).
I have to admit, the Southset Gallery was a bit tricky to get to if you don't know the area like I do, so here's a Google Map to help you find it :)
