Blogger Dinner at Charcoal Lane

May 22, 2014

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you probably know by now that I'm going on an awesome road trip down the Great Ocean Road with an Italian blogger called Marta (Blog di Viaggi). I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by Tourism Victoria asking me if I wanted to accompany her on this trip and, well, I'd be stupid to say no!
As my introduction suggests, Marta is not Australian, and has been flown out here from Italy for this trip, so we've never met before. Luckily a yummy meet and greet dinner was organised at one of Melbourne's most unique restaurants, Charcoal Lane
Charcoal Lane is located in Fitzroy and operates as a training facility as part of Mission Australia to help people regain their independence and gain employable skills. The menu consists of modern Australian cuisine including Wallaby Sirloin and Emu Fillet.
We started off the night with some tasting platters that featured salmon, kangaroo, crocodile and lots of other native goodies. I was pretty proud of myself because I tried most of it, including the crocodile, which was super weird.
For mains I was a bit less adventurous and went with the twice cooked caramelised saltbush lamb, which tasted incredible and completely melted in your mouth. I have to say I was extremely happy with my choice. Marta, however, was a bit more adventurous with her dish and went for the wallaby sirloin, which looked amazing.
It was so lovely to meet the Italian and other Australian bloggers and chat to the wonderful ladies from Tourism Victoria who are making this all happen! Tomorrow morning I'm up bright and early to head down the Great Ocean Road on our adventure!
