Gatsby At Vivian's

May 29, 2013

We stepped back in time to the roaring 20s for the launch of renowned bridal hair and makeup artist Vivian Ashworth's first salon. Her place was adorned with sparkles and gold, because what's a Gatsby party without a bit of bling. The centre table held so many beautiful lipsticks, eye shadows and lip-glosses, and all cruelty free of course, and some of Melbourne's finest attended including Richard Nylon and the girls from Pybus PR.

Autumn Floral at the SKFF

May 27, 2013

I was back at the St Kilda Film Festival the other night, but this time at one of Melbourne's historical cinema venues, the Astor Theatre. I decided to do something that I don't do very often, and that's an outfit post! I particularly wanted to do this because I wanted to show you this $10 dress I bought at the 1000 £ Bend Rag Trade market

Festival Of Steve

May 25, 2013

Tucked away down one of Melbourne's many alleys is The Kelvin Club who today played host to the Festival Of Steve. The Kelvin Club is a once upmarket gentleman's club now open to, well, not everyone, but certainly more people that it previously allowed, as long as they abide by the dress code. The Festival Of Steve is something new and exciting that I don't think we've ever had in Melbourne, and that's a celebration of the modern Melbourne Man.

St Kilda Film Festival | Opening Night

May 24, 2013

Move over Cannes. Last night we braved the cold and went along to the St Kilda Film Festival (SKFF) Opening Night. It was the first time I'd ever been to a film festival as a guest (I'd worked at one previously) and the SKFF is slightly different to most in that it's all short films. This seems to appeal to me more than feature length films. You get to see an array of talented film makers instead of just one. I was particularly excited for Melbhattan which I've previously seen and blogged about, but the video is now on private. We saw about 8-10 short films ranging from music videos, SXSW entries, artsy films and films about life.

House Of Cards | S/S13 Swamp Monsters | Interview

May 21, 2013

I recently had the opportunity to interview Ashiya Omundsen, founder of the  Brisbane label House Of Cards for another blog, however due to unforeseen circumstances, it didn't get published there. So I decided rather than let a good piece go to waste, I'd publish it here. Check out what Ashiya had to say about her Spring/Summer 2013 collection Swamp Monsters.

Rag Trade

May 19, 2013

What's that? Another market in Melbourne? Well we definitely don't have a shortage of them. Maybe instead of calling us 'the garden state,' we should be called 'the market state.' This one took us back to 1000 £ Bend with the Rag Trade flee market. There was plenty of $5-10 racks which was a welcome change from so many other second hand clothing sales, handmade jewellery and some tasty treats to keep you nourished (okay well maybe just on a sugar high). I bought 2 things, a dress for $10 and a jacket/top for $5 which I'm going to do a separate blog post about.

Obdressed with Fashion

May 15, 2013

Fresh from the success of their Ripponlea pop-up store, Obdressed have just launched their permanent boutique on Ormond Rd in Elwood. Obdressed is a quirky, shabby-chic abode filled with fashion and homewares predominantly made by local designers, including owner Liz' own Obdressed label. Her designs consist of beautifully printed silk dresses (image below), silk shirts and tunics, and pants.
