Mecca Bah Emporium Brisbane

June 27, 2014

Whilst in Brisbane I didn't get much free time, but when I did, the first thing I did was catch up with my oldest friend. We met when were 5 on our first day at school, and now 17 years later, we're still good friends. I told her that I'd have a night off to go have dinner and that she needs to find a cool, hipster place for me to blog about. She didn't let me down, but because I'm the worst blogger ever, I forgot my DSLR camera and was left using my new iPhone (first world problems).
She took us to Mecca Bah at Emporium Brisbane, which is a Middle Eastern and Morrocan restaurant in Fortitude Valley. I went for the Beef with ras el hanout spices, sweet potatoes, carrots and fig tagine, and my friend went for a chicken (tandoori I think) kebab with rice and couscous. I loved my meal and thought the fig went so well with the meat which melted in your mouth. It was a bit pricier than I would normal do but I was on holiday (sort of) and you can't have cheap Asian food all your life.
I spotted the Mashmellowtini on the menu and just had to take a photo. I kind of regret not getting one because it sounds incredible, but I can never bring myself to spend that much money on such a small amount of drink. One day I'll make it for myself... one day.
I was extremely happy with Mecca Bah. The service was great, the food tasted delicious and it was a warm night (for me anyway) so we could sit outside and people watch. I just wish I brought my DSLR to do the food justice.

After dinner we wandered across the street to Movenpick and ordered a tasting plate, which included 3 flavors of ice cream, a side of whipped cream and a topping. I got raspberry sorbet, hazelnut ice cream and cappuccino ice cream. It was very hard to decide which one I liked best! At first I love the cappuccino ice cream the most, but as I started to feel a bit sick from the sugar, the raspberry was a refreshing change. Basically you can never go wrong with raspberry.
We had a great night chatting, catching up and reminiscing, although we weren't quite ready to call it a night, so we decided to go to the Eat Street Markets. Keep an eye out in the coming days for that one!
