I feel like New Orleans is probably on everyone's bucket list. It was definitely one of the places that was high on my list of places to visit. Even when it's not Mardi Gras, there's still plenty to celebrate.
We started our New Orleans visit off with an evening stroll around the famous French Quarter. It's almost exactly the same as you see in TV shows or movies. Beautiful old buildings with hanging plants and beads absolutely everywhere.
The next morning we took a bus to the Bayou to go on an alligator hunt. At the tour headquarters they had an albino alligator. So cool. We set out on our air boats (#SwampMenMuch) and cruised into the Bayou. Our tour guides knew exactly where to look to find a gator and it wasn't soon before we came face to face with one.
I was actually really surprised about how much personality they had. They were almost like dogs. Dogs with exceptionally sharp teeth. This little guy wasn't nearly as big as some of the older ones that were described to us, and unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we didn't see any of the older gators. I was still really excited to see a few young gators.
After our gator adventure, we had the rest of the afternoon to explore the French Quarter again. That night we got to visit Mardi Gras World, which is where most of the floats are created for the world famous New Orleans Mardi Gras. I got a little bit excited when I found Cheshire!
New Orleans was a truly unique city and a place I'll never forget. It really is unlike anywhere else in America.
