Swimming with Seals & Dolphins

March 31, 2015

So a couple of months ago my friend told me that she'd never seen dolphins, and with living on the coast in Australia, that's just crazy! So when a Groupon deal came up for Moonrakers dolphin tours, I just knew we had to do it!
Moonraker Charters departs from Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, so after an early morning road trip, we set off around 9am. First up we cruised on over to a rotunda in Port Phillip Bay where the Australian Fur Seals like to lounge around on. When we arrived we slipped into the water and swam over to watch the seals glide through the water around us.
After our swim, we cruised around until we found a pod of dolphins near the coast. As soon as we got close, we jumped into the water as quick as we could to get a glimpse of them under the water. When we looked down we could see the silhouette of the dolphins beneath us. Unfortunately only moments later they swam straight into the dolphin sanctuary where it's illegal to swim with them, or even get within 250m of them.
We followed them for about an hour hoping that they'd swim back into open water, but alas, we weren't in luck. It was still wonderful to see them for the small amount of time we did.
After our tour we headed into Sorrento for some lunch and a look around the shops. This was definitely an amazing experience and one I'd recommend to everyone.
