Festival Of Steve

May 25, 2013

Tucked away down one of Melbourne's many alleys is The Kelvin Club who today played host to the Festival Of Steve. The Kelvin Club is a once upmarket gentleman's club now open to, well, not everyone, but certainly more people that it previously allowed, as long as they abide by the dress code. The Festival Of Steve is something new and exciting that I don't think we've ever had in Melbourne, and that's a celebration of the modern Melbourne Man.
I went along with Fran and another friend to have a look at the trinkets and the gorgeous venue. The walls were lined with oil paintings and vintage Melbourne paraphernalia with rich red carpet and mahogany walls. We found this little book stall with hilarious reads like this T-Rex Trying book that had Fran and I in tears. Upstairs was a marketplace with handmade bow-ties, bits and bobs, local ales, books and tailored clothing.
There were so many impeccably dressed gentlemen and a wonderful acoustic band featuring a trombone. Downstairs had a bar and dining area, and a billiards room with competitions running throughout the afternoon. All in all it was a quirky and unique event and I hope the Festival Of Steve becomes a regular on the Melbourne events calendar.
