It's crazy to think that another year has come and gone. I feel like I've done nothing this year but my blog begs to differ. This year has been fairly amazing for music and it was very difficult to pick only ten songs. However I managed it, so here they are!
10. The Naked And Famous - Hearts Like Ours
I always completely obsess over The Naked And Famous' singles, however I'm not too impressed with their whole album. This song gives me chills and I think it draws back into my love for songs that would be perfect for video montages. This song instantly makes me happy.
9. Charli XCX -Superlove
Charli XCX + Tokyo = amazing. Superlove is the perfect follow-up single to her first album True Romance. It's a great pop song and hopefully we hear more of this amazing Brit on Aussie radio in 2014.
8. Marina And The Diamonds/ Charli XCX - Just Desserts
We all know I have an obsession for Marina And The Diamonds, my only wish is that she and Charli XCX would tour Australia together like they did for North America. One day...
7. Ellie Goulding - Burn
Okay so maybe Ellie Goulding is moving in a more mainstream direction, however I had the privileged of seeing her live this year and was mesmorised. Usually I don't like it when the mainstream picks up my favourite artists, but Ellie is consistently producing amazing music, so hopefully her new found fame doesn't change that. It's also good to see that her video clips are getting less lame too.
6. Ms Mr - Fantasy
I've really jam packed this list with amazing female vocalists, but there have been some knock-outs this year. I first discovered this song at work on our playlist and it took me a while to warm to it, but I absolutely love it now!
5. Chvrches - Gun
Chvrches have got to be one of my favourite bands of 2013 and I'm super excited to see them at St Jeromes Laneway Festival next year. It was very difficult to decide which one of their songs to include in this list but I managed to narrow it down to Gun.
4. Haim - The Wire
One trend I've noticed this year is 80s music is back and the perfect example of this is the amazing breakthrough band Haim. These girls are unbelievably talented and I love the girl-power they have going on in their songs and videos. I'm also seeing Haim at St Jeromes Laneway Festival which will be incredible.
3. Lorde - Royals
Okay yes so I couldn't have a list of the my favourite songs of 2013 without including this juggernaut. What an incredible story of a 16 year old (now 17) Kiwi making it big in America the year after Australia's own Gotye had his success. There's hope for you yet America, don't give into the Katy Perry's and Lady Gaga's of the world.
2. Foals - My Number
Before I saw them live this year, I used to get something I call concert withdrawal, which is where I'll be listening to a band I love and have seen live, and start feeling sick and sad because I'm not watching them live at that exact moment. However after the whole debacle of seeing them live again this year and dealing with the masses of bogans, I don't suffer from concert withdrawal anymore. I'm not saying they're not amazing live, because they are, they just have a terrible audience now.
1. Editors - A Ton Of Love
So here it is, my #1. I'm totally obsessed with this song. I love the lyrics and I love how 80s it sounds. I think this is another band that probably won't tour Australia for a while. I'd probably have to go by myself if they did tour. I'm quite mesmorised by this man's voice too.
I hope you enjoyed my top songs of 2013 list. If you haven't seen my top songs of 2012 list you can click here. Let me know what songs you've been obsessing over this year. If you say Miley Cyrus I will shun you.
